OMD for SimulinkOMD is a multibody dynamics tool for modeling mechanical system. OMD can handle three dimensional models and is built using Kane's method of recursive generalized coordinates, which makes it fast. OMD has been embedded in Simulink to leverage the capabilities of this ubiquitous engineering tool. While Simulink has a toolbox available for multibody dynamics it may not be the right choice for some users ( for various reasons). The models which describe the mechanism is defined in Python ( so Python must be installed). We believe this is a better approach than using the Simulink interface for the definition of the mechanical system because the Simulink interface is geared towards control design. To the right you can see an image of a double pendulum ( the axis of the joints are not aligned making it a spatial rather than planer system ).
